How we verify 120,000+ professionals — and why it matters
A deep dive into our 6-step verification process, from Aadhaar face-match to ongoing criminal record monitoring. Trust is built, not claimed.
When a customer opens their door to a VanHub professional, they're not just letting a stranger in — they're trusting that we've done the work to verify that person is who they say they are, has the skills they claim, and has no history that should give us pause. That trust is not given. It's earned through a rigorous, multi-step verification process that we've refined over three years.
Our verification process has six steps. First, identity verification — we collect the professional's Aadhaar card (front and back) plus a live selfie, which we run through a face-matching algorithm to confirm the person applying is the same person on the Aadhaar. This catches identity fraud at step one. Second, address verification — we require a Voter ID, driving license, utility bill (less than 3 months old), or rent agreement to confirm the pro actually lives where they say they do.
Third, and most critically, a background check. We run the pro's details against police databases where available, and for home-service categories (especially child care and elder care), we require a police verification certificate. Fourth, credential validation — for licensed trades like electricians and plumbers, we verify trade licenses and certifications directly with the issuing authorities. A fake electrician license is not just fraud; it's a fire hazard.
Fifth, bank account verification — the pro's PAN card and cancelled cheque must match their name exactly. This prevents money laundering and ensures payouts go to the right person. Sixth, and ongoing: we re-verify every professional annually, including fresh criminal record checks. We also monitor court records and news reports for any adverse information about listed pros. If a pro picks up a criminal case while on our platform, they're immediately suspended pending review.
The result? Out of every 100 professionals who apply, only 62 pass verification. We turn away 38% — that's the cost of trust. But it's worth it. Our customer complaint rate is 0.3%, well below the industry average. And when a customer sees the verified badge on a pro's profile, they know it means something real — not just a paid upgrade.
Verification is not a one-time event; it's a continuous commitment. We invest heavily in this because we know that one bad incident can destroy years of built trust. If you're a customer reading this, know that behind every verified badge is a real human team that checked, double-checked, and will keep checking. That's our promise.
